Welcome back from what I’m sure was a well needed break for these hardworking pros. It was nice to get back to the home life that isn’t on wheels. Even though it’s called a “break,” my brother and all of these racers didn’t take any break from the moto life. Eating, sleeping and breathing motocross, no pro wanted to slack in any aspect knowing the first race back was the roughest toughest track on the CMRC circuit.
After a few days off it was so nice to load the moto van and trailer back up knowing we were heading back to my favourite lifestyle that is moto! Even though we rode a lot during the break, nothing beats the feeling of arriving at a race track and walking through the pro pits. Whether it’s the smell of race gas or the sight of the fans excitedly running around trying to get their favourite rider’s autograph, there is never a shortage of things at the track to stir your senses. And that is before the bikes even start up.
The drive from our home in Ohio to Gopher Dunes was more familiar to us as we crossed into Canada at the Peace Bridge. We have never been to Gopher Dunes before so I didn’t know what to expect. Obviously, the stories surrounding Gopher Dunes are legendary. From the deep sand and massive bumps, it’s certainly different than anything we have back in Ohio. However, as you probably know, after driving across Canada last month, the Denzlers never shy away from a challenge.
Pulling into the facility, we were very surprised with how nice the Gopher Dunes facility looked. With the small pond out front, the landscaped flat pit area, and of course the perfectly groomed sandy track. It was definitely nice to be back at the race track and we were ready to begin the eastern rounds.
Sunday’s pro races were insane and I overheard many pro racers say they had never seen the track that rough before. With the deep and heavy sand, the riders never got a moment to rest on the track. With their bikes wanting to come to a stop the moment the riders shut off their throttles, maintaining forward momentum took ever ounce of energy the riders had. In the end, it was as much about survival as it was racing. As much as the stories we heard about Gopher Dunes were extreme, it was definitely a track that has to be seen to be believed.
I have been so torn on how to end this week’s report as my brother, Kein Denzler #194, was in a pretty bad second moto crash on Sunday. The crash caused his bike to flip on top of him sucking his hand between the sprocket and the chain. He ended up losing about half of his pinky finger and his ring finger. We are a strong family and one that lets our strong faith guide us each and every day. We’re all thankful to God that this incident wasn’t worse; Kein definitely had someone watching over him on Sunday. He will be back and he will be stronger than ever.
For those of you that don’t know Kein, his humble Instagram post says it all about his amazing respectable outlook on life. On his IG (@keindenzler194) he simply stated that Sunday was a “weird day.” With Kein finishing top ten in almost every round he’s raced so far, he is trusting in God to be back racing for the last three rounds. He will know more later this week.
Thank you to everyone who has been there for us and helped, also thank you for all of the prayers that were said for him, the Denzler family is very grateful. In conclusion, I would like to give a shout out to www.mxpmag.com for this killer opportunity.
