Well, those three Western rounds sure went by fast. With Round 3 taking place in hot and windy Pilot Mound, MB today, It feels like the riders of the 2022 Triple Crown Series have experienced a little bit of everything so far in the past three weekends. After sandy and rough conditions at the opening round in Kamloops, a very hard and dry Drumheller track at Round 2, and then mid-summer heat today in Manitoba, it’s no wonder this series is classified as one of the most challenging on the planet.
In the 250 class, Jacob Piccolo ran away with the opening moto but would give up the lead late in Moto 2 to Mitchell Harrison. After a third overall at the opening round in Kamloops, Harrison now has two overall wins in a row and so far he’s proven to be fast on all surfaces. As he told us in an interview last week, he’s absolutely loving his time in Canada and he’s looking forward to the tracks in the east. He also said that he’s never been in a championship fight before so he’s trying to enjoy every second of it. Confidence is a powerful thing for an athlete and right now Harrison has a ton of it. Behind Harrison was Piccolo who finished second overall with a 1-2 moto score, and third was hometown boy Ryder McNabb. Who came into Round 3, not 100% and really had to dig deep to finish on the podium. Look for McNabb to join the fight for this title again once he gets healthy and back to the east tracks.
In the 450 class, it was once again Dylan Wright who today showed no sign of slowing down. He rode smooth and precise in both motos today and was never really challenged. Dylan will now take his perfect finishes from the three west rounds to the east and to the tracks that he could be even better on. Behind Dylan was once again the cagey veteran Tyler Medaglia who went 2-2 for second overall. In third, this week was Thor/Kawasaki/Pro Circuit rider Tanner Ward who after two sub-par rounds scored his first-ever 450 podium. As I said, the series now takes a week off before resuming at Walton Raceway on Canada Day weekend. Round 4 will feature three shorter spring motos in both classes. See you all in two weeks at the most famous raceway in Canada.
