Q and A with MXP

Brought to you by Yamaha Motor Canada.

To kick off the 2014 riding season in Canada, we at MXP wanted to introduce a brand new feature that will appear on mxpmag.com every Tuesday. Last week I asked you to send me a question that you may have regarding anything motocross. Perhaps the question is for me or perhaps you’d like me to pass it on to your favourite rider and I’ll try to get them to answer it. My email is chris@mxpmag.com, so if you have a question please send it to me and I’ll do my best to have it answered.

This week’s question is from Rich regarding the first round of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Motocross Nationals.

Q: With so many fast riders coming up to race the Canadian Nationals this summer, on a track like Nanaimo, who do you think has an advantage at round one?

A: Well Rich, that is a great question and one that I’ve been wondering myself lately. I’ve been lucky enough, or unlucky enough (depending on how you look at it), to have raced a few times on the Nanaimo track. While it’s never been my cup of tea, there have been a few riders over the years who seem to haul the mail at The Wastelands. I even heard Kyle Beaton say once that he loves the track. Love is a strong word, and after talking to the 2013 MX1 Champion, Brett Metcalfe, last year after round one, he wanted to quickly forget about it and move on to Kamloops.

While the crew has done a great job in the last few years to improve everything, The Wastelands track certainly sets up as the perfect love/hate relationship kind of deal. Last year Colton Facciotti obviously loved it (as do most BC riders) and he showed it by dominating both MX1 motos. I would expect him to do the same this year as he has to be extremely motivated to show everyone that he’s back. Another rider I would expect to do well at round one is Mike Alessi who has proven that he knows how to ride these types of conditions. He always seems to get great starts, which is a must on that track. Of course, you can never count out the Champ as Metty will no doubt come into Nanaimo with much more knowledge on how to ride the track and set up his KX450. Having said all of that Rich, if I had to pick one rider to win on May 31st, it would be hard to bet against Colton Facciotti. He’s just too good there.

Thank you Rich for your question and let’s all hope that Mother Nature co-operates and we have a relatively dry first round to kick off this awesome series. Remember, if you have a question, please email me at chris@mxpmag.com. I look forward to reading them.
