Walton closed out the 2022 Triple Crown Series over the weekend. The roller coaster season returned to coast-to-coast racing and was great for fans and riders all over Canada. Record amateur entries out west and large loud crowds in the east showed us that things are alive and well in Canadian outdoor MX.
While the team was battered and bruised heading into the final round, the remaining riders – Shawn Maffenbeier and Westen Wrozyna both rode great. Wrozyna once again racing the 250 class to fill the vacancy due to injuries would sacrifice what would have been a 5th overall in the 450 class series to support the teams needs at the last two rounds and drop down to the 250 class. His 6th overall on the day would close out the season nicely. Maffenbeier was involved in a crash during the Walton Trans-Can on Wednesday in the pro/am class. He was run over by several riders and with an already beat up body lined up on Sunday and secured third place in the MX Tour Championship. Knowing that an 8-8 on the Sunday would be good enough for 3rd overall for the year that is exactly what he did! Congratulations Maff!
Wrozyna, even after switching to the 250 class for the last two rounds, secured 8th in MX Tour standings.
The Triple Crown Series will now shift to the Arenacross and Supercross to close out the 2022 Triple Crown. With only a couple of weeks till kickoff the plan is for Wrozyna to race both classes and have Cannella and Maff rejoin the series at round 2 after some healing.
