As you all know by now our two-time 250MX Champion Jess Pettis is not only down south preparing for the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross Series, but he’s training at the famous Baker’s Factory located just outside Clermont, FL. Pettis is into his third week of work at the Baker’s Factory and so far everything is going smooth. To get his thoughts on how the opening weeks at the Baker’s Factory have gone, we reached out to Jess as he was driving to the track for another day of training.
“So far Palms everything is going great at the Baker’s Factory. I’ve been down there for about two weeks and during this time I’ve been just getting used to everything. I’ve never been down this far south so everything from the roads, to my house, are new. You know what it’s like when you get to a new town and you have to figure out how it all works. Also, since it’s been almost two years since I’ve ridden a SX track, these first few weeks have mostly been about getting comfortable. Obviously, riding an AMA SX track is completely different than riding an outdoor track so it does take some getting used to again. It’s funny, when I got to Florida a few weeks ago I went out and did a few 30-minute outdoor motos and felt great, even in the heat. But then I got on a SX track and I had to figure out my breathing and try and keep my heart rate down, it’s just so much different. Supercross is pretty much like a different sport altogether.
With about six weeks to go before the opening round in Houston, it’s pretty much ‘go time’ to try and get prepared. So far each day has been a little different and I’m super happy with how the program is here. Like everyone, I’ve heard talk about what goes on at the Baker’s Factory and how structured the program is, but honestly, it’s exceeded my expectations. The structure and the knowledge base here are incredible and although I’ve always prided myself on being a hard trainer, I’m definitely learning a lot here and I’m looking forward to the coming weeks. Thanks for checking in and we’ll talk to you next week.
