FXR Racing Presents: Isolation Inquiries With Ayrton Pomeroy

During these unprecedented times of self-isolation and social distancing, all of our kids are now forced to remain at home during the week as their school year has been postponed or cancelled completely. Also, with no racing until May at the earliest, our motocross kids are now sitting in limbo waiting for their next competition. To get an idea of what some of our talented kids are doing during this lock down, we will be reaching out to a few of them over the next couple of weeks. Next up is our Editor’s son Ayrton Pomeroy.

MXP: Hey Ayrton, obviously everyone has been doing their best to keep busy at home. What has your daily routine been since this self-isolation and social distancing began?

My daily routine is probably the most boring one you’ll hear about. I wake up between 7:30 and 8:00am, then I have breakfast (usually homemade waffles), next I’ll get dressed, brush my teeth, and then I’m ready for the day. By 9:00 I will go on to my computer and work on some math homework until 11:00. After that I will watch some YouTube or a movie that’s on television. At 12:00 I have lunch and then go do a workout. Our little gym in our basement consists a Concept 2 Ski-Erg and a couple kettle bells. After the workout I work on science or maybe do some reading until 2:30 and then I’m off of house arrest. We live on a quiet street so it’s easy to go outside and play and still stay away from people.

MXP: You left out some of the arguments you get into with your parents about having to do school work. Let’s assume you’re missing school at least a little. Every kid misses school, right/ What do you miss most about going to school?

I miss my friends and really just school in general. I miss school quite a bit so going back to school is fun for me. My school year has been strange this year as my teacher has left for health reasons. I’m not one of them but we have some bad kids in our class so there’s always someone getting in trouble. School is fun because I am very involved with a lot of stuff. I do the morning announcements and I’m the go-to MC for assemblies in the gym.

MXP: Yes, your parents are very proud of your effort at school. You mentioned your gym workouts, have you been doing any other training?

We were going to Gopher Dunes to ride once a week until they closed up. Hopefully they open again soon so we can start going again. Also, we went riding at a friend’s (Brenner Lemmens) track near Gopher Dunes last week and then on the weekend half of my own track dried up so now we’re just riding there. I’ve also been using my Moto Fit App to keep up with my training.

MXP: It sounds as though racing won’t be beginning until at least May. What are you most looking forward to once racing begins?

Riding the cool tracks and hanging out with friends is what I’m most looking forward to. I feel good on my St. Onge FXR Racing Yamaha right now so hopefully we can start racing soon.

MXP: Just in case you haven’t been keeping up with your studies, here is a math question for you. If 40 riders start a race but 5 end up going down in the first turn. Three of those riders remount and get back into the race. Then three riders crash in the whoops and DNF. How many riders finish this race?

I told you not to ask Math questions. Is the answer 35?
