The GoldenTyre brand of off-road motorcycle tires was established in Italy 30 years ago and its cutting edge design and durability has gained visibility and traction rapidly. GoldenTyre has teamed up with the likes of world renowned accomplished off-road riders like Graham Jarvis and Johnny Walker in efforts to develop the best products in the business. These riders have validated the efforts and achievements of this relatively new product with their top results and accomplishments. The GoldenTyre flag is currently being run on the Motocross GP circuit by top 2015 contenders Jake Nicholls and Stephen Frossard.
With GoldenTyre’s broadening global recognition and on-track success, Mike Nicholls saw fit to bring this great product to Canada five years ago. GoldenTyre in Canada is currently providing ‘The Midas Touch’ on the Motocross track to the likes of Todd Minnie, Jake Striechert, Michael Dasilva, Teagan Williams, Kyle Beaton and Super Mini rider Tyler Gibbs. GoldenTyre has also teamed for 2015 with Team PR-MX.ca as well as GP Moto for their Enduro team.
GoldenTyre is always on the lookout to recruit new members to join their winning team across our great country. If you are interested in giving this highly successful product a try, drop Mike Nicholls a line or a resume at www.goldentyre.ca.
The long awaited weekend is here and I am sure you are all as anxious to get at it as I am, so get up on those pegs, grab another gear and let’s get airborne. First off, I cannot believe how quickly the week has flown by. There just hasn’t been enough time in the day to keep up with all that is currently going on in my wide open ‘Moto’ world. The Easter break was nice but I must say I did miss the fact there was no ‘Live’ racing to follow on the big stage. I mentioned in Chris’s Monday Gate Drop some words on the Big Kahuna that went down at Whispering Pines, and I would like to add that it was very well attended. The tune of some 250 plus off-road riders who came from all over Western Canada contested the 12:00+ minute lap circuit that literally used every square inch of the GKMA’s circuit. I did speak with some of the participants including Blackfoot Direct Husqvarna rider Greg Small who said the changes that have been made to the Motocross track, including a new sand section, is a huge improvement. Greg claims being able to carry speed longer will increase the track’s overall flow. Greg provided me with this helmet cam footage/YouTube video, and noted at the nine minute mark the new sand portion of the track that will greet riders at round one of the 2015 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ncVBqm2ct8&feature=youtu.be
I will be heading to Kamloops momentarily to get my first look of this facility first hand as we are set to kick off round one of the Future West CMRC South Series here in B.C. I am pretty excited about this series as I believe the reunion with the CMRC is a much needed, positive step to unite the sport in a province that is challenged by geography and club fragmentation. I have been, among other things, helping Future West out with social media details, and from all accounts I believe round one of this series and beyond will be very well attended. The Ryan Lockhart School that is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the track from 4:00 pm – 6:30pm is a go, and there is still room for one or two last minute additions. If you are interested, message me at the BC Motocross FB page.
Getting back to the track and the upcoming Rockstar Nationals, I can tell you that the facility is in top shelf shape. The crew there has had the past two months of great weather where temperatures have been as high as 20 degrees, and trust me they have cashed in. One of the other things that I would like to mention is that the road on the way into the track that had previously been a bomb hole-filled nightmare to drive has been totally redone. Yes, no matter what size your rig is I promise this year’s drive in will not be as painful or as hard on your vehicle as in previous years.
So now with the clock ticking louder for those hoping to hit their marks and achieve their goals at the top level in 2105 on the Canadian stage, I would like to add and congratulate Michael Dasilva and RTR Performance in Kamloops on the deal that was inked this week that will see the likeable St. Jean sur Richeleu, Quebec rider aboard a KTM 450. Michael will harness the services of the tightly run RTR ship and have the father/son duo of Denis and Erik Dubé do their best to help him achieve career best, west round finishes. After the series’ conclusion in the West, the Duroy KTM team will pass the support torch to the Dasilva team, allowing Michael to sustain his bid for 2015 supremacy as the series winds down in the East. Michael is not only a great rider and super good kid but is also smarter than the average bear. He is full value for the support and I am sure he will do them all proud. Michael also runs the tires of the sponsor of this ‘Friday Flight,’ GoldenTyre, and I know that Michael loves them. If you are at a National, stop by his set up and I am sure he would be more than happy to tell you about them. We will hear more from Michael as he will be on my Canadian Moto Show this Wednesday night at 6:00pm Pacific, 9:00pm Eastern.
Winding down here as I am literally busier than a one armed coat hanger and need to get rolling to Kamloops, I would like to shed some light on a couple more Pro National race related bits as our voracious appetite for news of anything related increases by the day. Yesterday, while gathering information for the program for the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, I did get confirmation out of Tony Alessi that he and The Smart Top Moto Concepts team would be in Canada “at some point”. Tony is usually quite up front with me and did tell me point blank at the San Diego Supercross what their plan for 2015 was. I am not exactly sure what I am to make of it all as of yesterday’s chat, but right now my ‘Spidey Senses’ are telling me that something has changed since our face to face conversation. In keeping theme with what we have grown accustomed to in Canadian Moto, I guess the ‘we won’t see what we see until we see it applies.’ I did tell Tony to let me know once he could elaborate on the team’s concrete plans, and his response was “Yes Sir.”
It would be great to have Mike Alessi back in Canada, for sure, but after writing down in black and white for the upcoming issue of MXP Mag and the preview of the series, I assure you we are in for one for the ages with or without Mike Alessi and Vince Friese. I did manage to find out as well that Brock Hoyer, on his Spectra Power Sports RMR Suspensions Yamaha, will ride a 450 this season. Brock was on the gas in a big way last year but had his series cut short due to a shoulder injury. Brock is always smiling and has a great quote that he takes pride in saying…”The older I get the faster I feel.” It will be great to have Brock and everyone else back on the line May 31st.
Wherever you are in the West or the East or at any point in between, keep that throttle pinned on passion, do your best to stay safe and Let’s Go Racing.
Until next ‘Friday Flight’ Brent ‘Airmail’ Worrall out…………………
