Hello all passengers, welcome aboard and please note the fasten seat belt sign is illuminated and will remain on throughout this entire flight as your pilot is new! Okay, I am not sure if I owned an airline and welcomed my patrons that way that I would be in business very long. I do know, however, that I would sleep well in my box in an alley somewhere knowing I was rigorously honest, right? Honesty – yes it is one of the highest priorities of any successful individual or endeavour, at least in my opinion, and that’s what this column will provide when it pertains to my thoughts and experiences as we twist the throttle on the 2015 race season.

I am super pumped to welcome you aboard the inaugural voyage of this first edition of what will be a weekly blog by myself Brent ‘Airmail’ Worrall, host of the Canadian Moto Show and writer here at Motocross Performance Magazine. If you’re wondering what I will write about, let me join you. All fun aside, 2014 was an awesome year for myself and Canadian motocross as a whole, and to say I am amped up about the many races that I will attend, both locally and nationally, is a huge understatement. Simply put, I love this sport and the great people that make it what it is, so when you tune in here each Friday you will get my take on my experiences with my involvement and interaction with it, them, all of the above and then some.

I don’t know about you, but I will go on the assumption that I am not alone when I say it is hard to believe we are already two weeks into a new year of new beginnings. A clean slate for all to put pen to paper on the first chapter of what, by year’s end, will become something to look back on with pride, or the needed fuel and motivation to improve whatever it is that floats your Moto boat. Be it living in the solution of your newest resolution or the latter of that equation, the only real stock of matter and the one with the truest value being that of the here and the now. That being said, from what I have seen going back to this fall’s edition the Canadian Arenacross series through to the first rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross and this past weekend’s opener of the Amsoil Arenacross, there seems to be an increased appetite for racers to line up and do just that. Great news for our industry and all of us who share the common bond and love of being trackside. Trackside, a race fan’s true happy place, anticipating a gate drop that will have every fabric of our being invigorated and temporarily celestially aligned, and our souls smiling from the depth of our existence.

Yes, even though we are five and a half months away from gate drop at round one in Kamloops for the 2015 edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, many are in the process of making their first pilgrimage, or what has become an annual winter ritual, to their favourite training facilities and winter racing destinations. I fully expected to see the number of contenders for the night programs sign up and line up for the Supercross series but I am absolutely blown away by the number of riders that are attending the different arenacross series across the continent. At round one of the Amsoil Series there were one hundred plus pro riders, which included a handful of Canadians attempting to qualify for what would be only one tenth of that in gate picks for the main events come the night program…amazing!

Ryan Lockhart and his Maple Ridge Motorsports connections were in Pasco, Washington this past weekend at an Arenacross race, and over and above the strong contingent of Pro riders there they had 300 plus amateur riders. Ryan, Devin Smith and Jarred Greenough had solid weekends with Lockhart scoring podium finishes in the Pro Open and Lites main. Yes, I truly believe we are in a good spot right now, North America wide, as motocrossers seem to have a voracious appetite to line up and go racing, giving 2015 much promised optimism.

Ryan Lockhart just keeps rolling along.

Remember friends that ‘Fasten Seat Belt’ light is still on so wherever your passion and love for this great sport takes you this weekend and even if that seat belt only helps to keep you on the couch as you test the limits of its edges, cheering your favourite Supercross rider on, do your best to stay safe. Let’s also remember how contagious and terminal this affliction is and do our part to help and promote its growth. Tell a friend, let’s go racing.
