Florida Mini Olympics: Day 2

Canadian Invasion

Brought to you by Yamaha Motor Canada

Well day 2 is now in the books from Gatorback cycle park. All but one one LCQ separates us from full out main events starting tomorrow at 8am. The action that we saw today was pretty spectacular. The A class has about 6 kids that are unreal to watch. Shawn Mcelrath, Cooper Webb, Dakota Alix, Paul Coates, Chase Owen and Matt Bisceglia. Remember those names because one or all of them will be a champion at some point. As far as the Canadian contingent down here Rock River Yamaha rider Tanner Ward was the top finishing Canuck. Though all the races to this point have been just heats. Tanner has shown the best speed as we head into the main events. Other notables are Taylor Ciampichini, Mitch Goheen, Thomas Rendall, Kenneddy Lutz, Ryan Gauld, and Hunter Scott to name a few. Supercross will come to a close then we head to the motocross track tomorrow afternoon. Here are some pics from today’s action. Enjoy!!

A few bad dudes chat on the start to start day 2. Mike Treadwell, Mike Jones and Keith Johnson discuss the old days before the gate drops. These guys have cut a few laps on the Gatorback track before.

Former Canadian national #4 plate holder, and current Team Green Kawasaki rider Keith Johnson would take the plus 45 heat win.

“Iron” Mike Treadwell is a super nice dude. He still has some serious speed at 44 years old. Also a former Canadian national rider, he would take home the plus 35 heat race win.

Kennedy Lutz from Yorton, Sask. would ride really well in the Girls 12-15 class. She hucked the huge triple in the back part of the track and run up front for most the moto. She has a real good chance of hitting the podium in today’s main event.

Remember this name, Hannah Hodges. This girl is unreal on an RM 85. Her lap times would rival most dudes out on the Sx track. She will be a woman’s champion someday.

Riders Jett Reynolds #79 and Gage Linville #402 waged war on the last lap of the 4-8 51cc heat race. They smashed each other two or three times on the last lap and received a standing ovation from the crowd. Reynolds would hold on for the win.

Mitch Goheen had some bike issues before the week started but manged to get them fixed by the factory Kawi guys at the track. His results were pretty good but he knows he has room to improve.

The track crew is on point down here. If a rider goes down, 3-5 guys run to help the flaggers direct traffic, and control the situation. Racers safety is a huge priority down here.

Sometimes it sucks being an actually racer behind the camera. I can tell when things are about to go wrong. I watched this guy a lap before and he barely hung onto his bike through the whoops. So, I figured I should shoot the next lap, and this his how it ended for the #194 of Jerry Robin. OUCH!!!

Good old Gatorback blue grove. This place has never changed. LOL

Zak Simmons was all smiles when I met him at the sign up tent. He didn’t make the main event in his class, but he and his family are really enjoying the entire Mini O’s experience so far.

Beau Pollock #511, is another young Canadian taking in the sites and sounds of the Florida Mini O’s for the first time. He is looking forward to the motocross part of the week.
