2012 Race Finale Updates…..TVR on Oct. 6 & Sandstorm on Oct. 14…..e-blast from the Dunes on October 4….
Gopher Dunes is prepping for its’ final 2 races of the season. Upcoming this Saturday, October 6 is a TVR Club Race & the CMRC Grand Finale Gopher Dunes Sandstorm is scheduled for Sunday, October 14 (October 21 is the rain-date). We are open for practice riding on Thursday from 11am to 7pm and on Friday from 11am only till 5pm. The tracks will then be getting prepped for the TVR Race on Saturday. We reopen for public leisure riding for the remainder of the holiday weekend….on Sunday from 11am to 6pm and on Thanksgiving Monday from 11am to 5pm. We will also be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11am to 7pm and then closed next Thursday, Friday and Saturday to prep for the CMRC Finale on the 14th. Then for the remainder of October we will be open weekly from Tuesday through to Sunday.
In November we will remain open on weekend’s only from 11am to 5pm (weather permitting).
Then it’ll be time for Gopher Dunes to call it another active and eventful season, then give us some winter months to relax, recharge and reorganize…..
Now many of you want to know what’s happening at the 2012 CMRC Sandstorm, so here’s the scoop.
Please remember that it is scheduled for Sunday, October 14 (and due to the gopherdunes.com site currently under reconstruction, the onsite advertised date of October 21 is no longer accurate…..please spread the word…..)
“SANDSTORM 2012” CMRC – on Sunday, October 14th…..the KTM Super Series Final Motocross Round & the Canada Cup Final Round ATV Racing & Vintage Racing + Vintage Static Display
We welcome out all 2012 CMRC Members to this Finale Race of the Season, as well as new riders wanting to get a taste of racing or to be a part of the CMRC wrap-up. We will need all members to have their Membership Card with them at sign-in or at least know their member # and new riders will have to complete the 2-sided CMRC licence application and pay an insurance coverage fee of $40 along with their regular race entry fees.
Gates open on Saturday, October 13 from 3pm till 11pm. Gates re-open on Sunday at 6:30am.
GATE ADMISSION FEE:
$10 per adult
$7 for children 5 to 11
Free for pre-school kids
Overnight camping is allowed at $15 per vehicle. Ground campfires are not allowed. Only raised fire pits and BBQ’s are allowed. It is in the plans to have a large designated community bonfire Saturday evening.
NOTE: Anyone arriving on Saturday, even those with the intention of not staying overnight, will be charged the per person gate fee and get wrist-banded accordingly.
RACE ENTRY FEES: 1st. class — $30
2nd. class — $30
3rd. class — $15
Pee-wee entry fee: 1st. class — $25
2nd. class — $25
Early registration will take place in the Pro Shop from 7pm to 9pm Saturday evening and then again Sunday morning from 6:45am to 8:45am at the Pavilion trailer. A mandatory riders meeting will be at the Wiseco Pavilion at 8:45am. Practice starts at 9am followed by the race schedule (to be set up by the head ref.)
NOTE: all racers and accompanying friends coming for early sign-in Saturday evening to the Pro Shop MUST pay their gate fee upon entering and will get wrist-banded, so that all banded guests returning Sunday morning will only need to show their band upon passing through.
Saturday evening will also be a time for activities beginning after 4pm including an RC long-jump competition at the pee-wee track as well as a pit-bike race (it’ll be a ‘run what you brung’ up to 125cc max. & must be 4-stroke pit-bike). RC enthusiasts are also welcome to bring out their cars for a friendly track match.
Classes racing at the Sandstorm Finale: 50cc (4-6), 50cc (7-8), 50cc (open), 65cc (7-9), 65cc (10-11) all on pee-wee track.
85cc (7-11), 85cc (12-16), Super-mini, Schoolboy, 250 Beginner, Open Beginner, 250 Junior, 450 Junior, Open Junior, 250 Intermediate, Open Intermediate, Youth (17-29), Vet Junior (30+), Vet Master (30+), 40+, Ladies & Open Pro Am on Main Track which is still similar to National layout.
Also racing will be ATV classes: ATV mini pee-wee, ATV mini expert, ATV mini ladies on pee-wee track.
Then ATV ladies, ATV sportsman, ATV Junior, ATV intermediate & ATV Pro all racing on the Main track.
And once again Gopher Dunes is delighted to welcome back our Vintage racers & enthusiasts! As at previous Sandstorm Finales, there will be a vintage ‘show & shine’ display set up in the pit area near the pee-wee track. We invite all our VMX enthusiasts and racers to bring out their old bikes, old gear and vintage memorabilia and show off some of their vintage treasures.
Two Vintage Classes will be racing on the pee-wee track categorized for Vintage 1974 & Older & Post Vintage for 1975 to ’84. Each class will race 2 moto’s scheduled in amongst the 50 & 65cc pee-wee moto’s.
This ‘ol bar-bangin’ vintage exhibition race should create some amazing spectator cheering amongst a few good laughs!
SIGN-UP for Vintage Racing opens at 7am by Ron’s Sprinter pit area. RACE ENTRY FEE: $15 per class
Plaques will be awarded to the top 3 overall winners of each class & ‘special plaques’ will also be awarded for: Frank’s Choice “Best of Show”, Most Original, Coolest Bike, Hard Charger, Hard Luck & Hard Core. The special ‘hard core’ plaque winner must participate in a race and by tallying up the racer’s age plus the age of his race weapon – the highest # will become our ‘hard core’ winner! I’m sure this will shock a few – and if you don’t believe it, come out to see it?!

Once again, the Sandstorm invites all new riders to race this event for an additional $40 insurance fee + entry fee. No 2012 CMRC licence is required.

For MINORS up to age 17: It is mandatory that you have completed the CMRC Minor Waiver & Parental Consent Forms in 2012 and you should have a Minor Card stating that it was completed. Please bring it with you when you register to race, otherwise you will have to compete these lengthy double-sided forms again! Any new racers under the age of 18, will have to complete this form and it must be signed by the Minor and a Parent.
What you need for registration so you are not sent to the back of the line:
- completed Entry Form & signed on back (by parent, if under 18)
- cash in hand
- if under 18, both signed Waiver Release & Parental Consent Forms or Minor Card
- if under 18, a parent must accompany you to sign the participant waiver
- racers will receive a wristband prior to exiting the registration trailer
- new racers be prepared to change your bike race # which must be displayed on your jersey/chest protector
- as well as on the front and both sides of your bike and with proper colours.
- Incorrect #’s or missing #’s may cause the rider to be scored improperly or disqualified!
