Two-time Canadian MX1 champ re-signs with KTM
Tuesday November 13, 2012. St-Bruno, QC – A true champion always enjoys a good challenge. For Campbell River, BC’s Dusty Klatt—a four-time Canadian National Motocross title holder—2012 would prove to be one of his biggest challenges yet.
At this time last year, Klatt was becoming a member of the KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing Team, which meant learning a new bike, new team and new surroundings. Six months later, Dusty and his fiancée, Hannah, welcomed their first child into the world, a son named Aaro. Not surprisingly, the 27-year-old’s routine would require some adjusting.
It may have taken a few weekends into the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals before Klatt and the KTM team found their chemistry together. When they did, however, it resulted with an emotional moto win and overall in Ste-Julie, podiums at the final four rounds and a 3rd overall in the MX1 series. (Interestingly enough, if you only count the latter half of the series, Klatt is 2nd overall.)
A strong finish to his National season earns Dusty another year with the KTM Red Bull Royal Distributing Fox Racing Team. While a third overall is more than respectable, Klatt’s target remains on the number one spot in 2013.
“I’m happy to sign on early and start preparing next year,” says Klatt, who enters his second season on KTM. “I really like the new 2013 450 SX-F; the overall package is improved and the fuel injection works awesome. Last year wasn’t one of my best years, obviously. My pride was hurt and I want to put my sponsors and myself back on top—that’s where I expect to be.”
Looking ahead to January, Klatt plans to race a round or two of Future West’s Canadian Arenacross Championships, prior to driving south to California for training, testing and developing his new 450 SX-F.
“Dusty ended his year strong, especially with that convincing moto win in Ste-Julie,” adds KTM Canada’s Racing Manager, Andy White. “He’s only of few riders proven to win on the Canadian national circuit. Now that he and KTM have spent a year working together, we have created a strong foundation and look to build on that in the New Year.”
