Denaye Giroux Blog: Two Down One To Go

Round two is in the books for the Women’s West National Series, with 30 girls signed up it looks like the series is still on a roll. The talk around the pits Friday was about another American rider that came up to ride. Lara Bartol, who showed she had top three speed and was leading the second moto for a few laps until a couple crashes ended her day. It’s great to see new riders coming up to race the series, to throw in a bit of a mix to the series and overall just shows that the Canadian series is getting some talk all over.

Hailey pulled off another 1-1 weekend, with Shelby going 2-2. After that there were some mixes in the group. Larissa McGlynn was my stand out this weekend getting her first podium spot! Larissa has always been fast and has the speed to mix it up with the top girls every weekend. seeing new people on the box is always exciting, it’s proving that women’s motocross is not a dying sport, all of the girls have stepped up another level and are banging bars to get to the top which makes for some great racing action.
Top 5 on the day were:
Hailey Larson
Shelby Turner
Larissa McGlynn
Rachel Springman
Sara King
Now it’s only fair that if the guys get monster girls that the girls get some “eye candy” at the races too. At each of the rounds we asked pro riders and mechanics to do our moto 1, 2 and 30 second boards. These positions are now being fought for each week, I’m thinking next year we will have to have try-outs! They are all good sports about it and make it great for the girls, whether that be distracting them or maybe giving them some motivation it’s all in good fun. Thanks guys!

Now I mentioned this in my blog last week, but again I have to say Camille and I both agree that helping the series and running around all day seems to be more work than just racing the series. I don’t think people realize how much work goes into each round with all of the little details to pull it all together. I agree that in the past years before we started helping out that we definitely took for granted a lot of what people were doing to help us. We have a lot of passion for this sport and all of the women racing, we want to see the best for them and we love being a part of it. We have high hopes for the future of women’s mx and have a lot of new ideas, we just need the girls to keep showing up and putting on a good show.

The final round of the Women’s West National Series is at Castrol Raceway this Saturday in Edmonton, see you all there. I will leave you all with another update on Sierra Roth. This is the first time she has spoke about it herself. This girl is so strong and has a good head on her shoulders, still sending all of our thoughts and prayers to her on her new journey in life.

” Hey all. What a journey it has been for the past couple of weeks . I am finally able to do this on my own without the morphine knocking me out. I am now transferred to Edmonton at the Glenrose hospital. The doctor at the Stollery hospital was so impressed on my progress he wanted to get me to rehab as soon as possible, so he moved me over here in one day! The original plan was 1-2 weeks but because of my health I have been moving along well. Being paralyzed has been quite the ordeal. There are many things to learn before I am discharged into my new life in a wheelchair. Some days can be overwhelming with all the therapy I have to go through to get me back on track. Visitors are to a minimum as of now because of the busy schedule and little sleep at night I am getting. The question keeps being brought up about if I have feeling in my legs , this may never occur so I am now preparing myself for the new road ahead. I will continue to heal so I can be back at home soon. I am pushing to be out of here before the summer is over. All the support I have received is unreal. I cannot thank everyone enough. There are far too many people to list right now, but do know you all have helped me get through this with your generosity and kind words. Love you all ! Xoxo”
