Denaye Giroux Blog: That’s a Wrap!

Where does the time go? These past few weeks just flew by. It’s hard to believe that the series is over. Maybe next year we can work for having four rounds, eh Mark?

We definitely outdid the series we put together last year. With more sponsors and great racing, it made for a successful series in 2013. We can’t thank everyone enough for their help and support who made the day run smoothly for us: Ryan Gauld, Marc Travers, Daryl Murphy, Wendy Snelgrove and Susan Harris!

With up to 32 ladies at each round I couldn’t be more proud of all these girls for putting on some great racing this year. It makes it easy for us to want to put together a good series when we have the numbers to make it worthwhile. It looks like the future of women’s mx is only going to get better from here! Camille and I have a few new ideas for next year, so we hope to see you all out again, plus new up and coming riders will be joining this elite group of racers.

For our final moto of the series we had Kyle Beaton running the 30 second board and Dylan Kaelin walking across the line with the moto two board. A big thanks to all of the Pro riders and mechanics who stepped up to fulfill their trophy boy careers: Jared Allison, Broc Hoyer, Bobby Kiniry, Hoodie, Jared Stock, Jeremy Medaglia, Ross Johnson and Brad Nauditt. All of the lady riders were either more motivated or distracted when the gate dropped.

After the three rounds, here are the top ten ladies of the 2013 CMRC Women’s Western Nationals:

1. Hailey Larson
2. Shelby Turner
3. Rachel Springman
4. Larissa McGlynn
5. Sara King
6. Brittany Danyluk
7. Courtney Stelter
8. Jamie Munro
9. Bailey Pozdnekoff
10. Dominique Daffe

We had a few Individual Awards to give out at the end of the series which were:

Schrader’s Hard Charger Award – Brittany Danyluk
Cycle North Most Improved Rider Award – Dominique Daffe
LimeNine Speed & Style Award – Hailey Larson
Championship Ring – Hailey Larson

Congrats to all of these girls! Thank you for another great season.

Last but not least, Rachel Springman, Sara King and I got a chance to sneak away from the races on Sunday to take a much needed visit to the Edmonton hospital to see our fellow racer and friend Sierra Roth who was injured a few weeks ago at a local race leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Sara was quick to point out Sierra’s room from the bottom floor. It was the only room with a Topher Ingalls jersey in the window (one of her favourite riders).

It was great to see a smile on this girl’s face after all she has been through in the past few weeks. After talking to her, we could all see the motivation and determination she has to push through this injury and still accomplish what she wants to do in life. She is accepting the worst and knows there will be a lot of changes in her future, but that’s not stopping her. I’m sure there will be many ups and downs to come, but if there is anyone that can come out on top it is Sierra! You would think that after an injury like this you would never want to look at a dirt bike ever again, but Sierra has high hopes to get back on a bike one day, which is not impossible, there are more than a handful of riders who are paralyzed that are back riding. If you haven’t heard of Darius Glover you need to watch this! Truly inspiring and it shows that you can do whatever you put your mind to. Keep your eyes out for Sierra Roth in the years to come. She will be one to inspire the world!
