We just received this sad news, that Canadian TV service provider, Rogers Cable, is no longer carrying SPEED Channel. This means no more AMA Supercross action, NASCAR and other notable motorsport events. Boo, Rogers Cable!
Here some details regarding Rogers’ decision to drop SPEED from their network offerings:
Rogers Cable decision to end SPEED broadcasts means a dramatic reduction in motorsports coverage for its subscribers. NASCAR fans no longer have access to live coverage of the NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series races, practice and qualifying sessions from all three national touring series (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series), the popular weekday news magazine, NASCAR Race Hub, and the high-energy NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pre-race program, NASCAR RaceDay.
Sports car fans lose the brand new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship just days from the running of the iconic 12 Hours of Sebring. And for two-wheel fans, the loss is felt two-fold as the Monster Energy Supercross Series has just reached its halfway point with rookie Ken Roczen keeping pace with three-time defending champ Ryan Villopoto in one of the most competitive seasons in series history; and the opening round of the MotoGP season is just around the corner.
SPEED MEDIA STATEMENT:
“SPEED’s distribution agreement with Rogers Cable has expired, and we regret that Rogers Cable has elected not to continue carrying SPEED. The proposals we have offered Rogers Cable are fair and in line with the tremendous value our network provides. Fans are encouraged to reach out to alternate video providers in their area to find a provider that carries SPEED.”
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that SPEED is not asking to increase rates, rather it appears that Rogers is looking to increase profits by decreasing the fees they pay to programmers yet not passing any savings to their customers.
