Well, the day has finally arrived for most kids in Canada; after two months of summer it’s now time to head back to school. Whether you’re just young and heading to Kindergarten or a little older and starting your first day of high school, it’s the same for everyone. I don’t care who you are, every student is feeling at least a little nervous today as they enter through those school doors and into a world completely different than the last few months. The sound of excited kids talking non-stop and the smell of a freshly cleaned school, these things haven’t changed for a hundred years.
Heading back to the structured regiment that schools demands can sometimes be tough for us free spirited motocross racers. After a fun summer of glory at the race track and sometimes being treated as a “big deal” with podium speeches, big trophies and the general coolness that comes with knowing how to ride a dirt bike, sitting in a classroom for hours on end when outside it’s still prime riding weather is not an easy thing to do, especially if you attend a school where the teachers have no idea what motocross is. However, like it or not you have to endure it. The best advice I ever received about going to school was to try to make the most of it. If you’re reading this you more than likely compete in this sport. This fact alone makes you an athlete and someone who can excel at something. So use these skills in school and try to play as many sports as possible, or take music and learn to play an instrument, just do something to help school be more enjoyable. It will also help the year go by faster and it will make you a better, well-rounded person.
