On The Road With the Ferguson Family: Ready To Go Racing

So here we are, on the road to nationals again. It feels like we were just driving down this old bumpy highway. Traveling across Canada and racing dirt bikes with your three sisters is a lot of fun until you all need to use the one tiny RV bathroom at the same time. I’ll let you imagine for yourself how that might play out.

Now, let’s backtrack a little bit. The last time you might have heard from us was probably at Walton following our youngest sister Téa’s release from the hospital after breaking her pelvis. Her recovery from that incident was brutal, but that wasn’t even the worst part. Shortly after coming home, Téa was diagnosed with an A-typical spinal cord injury resulting from previous accidents. She was fitted for a full torso hard-shell brace that she could only take off to shower. What was only supposed to be 1-2 months in the brace turned into an agonizing five months. Recovery was painfully slow and took a lot of mental toughness, but Téa is extremely resilient. Once she was cleared to do so, she went right back into the swing of things. She was playing volleyball, basketball (which is far more aggressive than we thought it was), badminton, and rugby. All while training for the outdoor MX season. Our team superstar.
Katrine (aka lil Gato) has also been rounding out her athleticism this off season. We call her lil Gato, which means “kitten” in Spanish, but I’m not totally sure why. She’s more like a hungry Jaguar obliterating her opponent in any sport she plays. Seriously, even I’m scared of the lil Gato sometimes. In every single sport her school offered, she not only joined the team but became one of their starting players. Even though most of her activities were not motorsports-related, there is no doubt that her overall athleticism has improved. Making an astounding difference in her riding.

One con to living in ”Winterpeg” and still working full-time jobs is that getting seat time in the winter is extremely difficult for Ani and me. Other than a few stolen riding days, we have been snowed into the gym doing what we can to prepare for this year’s races. However, this does give us time to refine our racing program. This year, we are thrilled to share that we will again be racing for Heartbeat Hot Sauce and Capitol Motosports aboard our brand new Husqvarna motorcycles that we got from Chudd’s Powersports. We are also welcoming two new major partnerships to our team! Red Ember Pizza is a local artisanal wood fire pizza truck/restaurant that we have adored for years. And Jett Holdings, a property development and management company out of southern Manitoba!

Out of all our off-season shenanigans , the highlight was the amazing opportunity we had to be a part of the Manitoba Ride for Dad. The MB Ride for Dad is a foundation that raises awareness and funds to help fight against prostate cancer. Not only did we learn a lot, but we were also truly honored to be able to represent and support such a great cause. The event itself was this past Saturday, and apparently, Mother Nature was in a bad mood that day because it was freezing cold and raining. Despite the weather, hundreds of people showed up with their motorcycles In support of this humble battle. It was a truly moving experience.

And that brings us back to now. Driving through the exciting scenery of Saskatchewan while making our way to Round 1 of the Triple Crown Series! We are beyond excited to finally be back into racing season and for this WMX West championship! The vibes are high in this old RV, and we are feeling stronger than ever as individuals, racers, and as a team.

We’ll see you at the track!

Fergeez out!
