Fox Racing Presents Isolation Inquiries With Cash Wright

During these unprecedented times of self-isolation and social distancing, all of our kids are now forced to remain at home during the week as their school year has been postponed or cancelled completely. Also, with no racing until May at the earliest, our motocross kids are now sitting in limbo waiting for their next competition. To get an idea of what some of our talented kids are doing during this lock down, we will be reaching out to a few of them over the next couple of weeks. Next up is the fast young Alberta rider Cash Wright.

MXP: Hey Cash, we hope you and your family are doing well during this crazy time. What has your daily routine been since this self-isolation and social distancing began?

I usually wake up at around 7:00am. My mom is really particular so she makes me clean my room spic and span and top to bottom. Then I have breakfast, my usual is yogurt, cereal and frozen fruit all mixed together; it’s actually pretty good. Then, I have an hour of screen time to let my food digest. After the hour, I go down to my basement where we have a pretty good workout setup that I use for my training. I usually workout for about an hour. Then I go to this site on my parents’ computer, which is called D2L. This is where I do my school work. I work on this until I’m done all of the subjects. Then the rest of the day I just chill. My grandparents bring us some baked treats sometimes; they love to bake so it’s always nice when they share those treats with us. Also, at some point in the afternoon I take our dog for a long walk. Life isn’t that bad staying at home because you can always be with your family.

MXP: Well it sounds as though you’re staying busy. Let’s assume you’re missing school at least a little. Every kid misses school, right? What do you miss most about going to school?

I miss having fun and going on field trips. I also miss how my teachers were really nice and made work so much more fun. Our grade six teachers planned a field trip To go to a camp called Camp Chief Hector. Sadly, it’s now cancelled. I used to wish school would be cancelled, but now I wish it wasn’t because it’s so different not hanging out with people.

MXP: Yes, it’s funny how this situation has made us appreciate certain things. It also sounds like you’ve been keeping busy with your training.

Yes, I have. Like I said we have a decent training set up in my basement. My workout is pretty intense and involves a lot of different movements and exercises. Most of it is based on circuits, and when I’m done it ends up being a full body workout. For cardio I usually run on our treadmill. I either do a 30 minute run at 5mph, or I do intervals for 30 minutes at a higher intensity. If I put on some good workout music it makes me motivated to work hard.

MXP: It sounds like you’re still training hard, maybe even harder than most pro riders (laughs). What do you miss most about being at the motocross track?

I pretty much miss everything about being at the track. For example, the feeling of hitting a corner really fast and smooth is my favourite and I really miss it. I miss landing really big jumps and going really fast. I miss all of the nerves and excitement that come with racing. I guess I pretty much miss everything about racing, including hanging out with my friends at the track.

MXP: Just in case you haven’t been keeping up with your studies here is a math question for you. If 40 riders start a race, but 5 end up going down in the first turn. Three of those riders remount and get back into the race. Then three riders crash in the whoops and DNF. How many riders finish this race?

I love a good math question. I would say that 35 people finished the race.
