Defending 2014 CMRC East Women’s Champion Eve Brodeur has been training hard all winter in hopes of having another very successful season. This outgoing girl from Quebec is a very hard worker and takes the sport of motocross very serious. With her long list of accomplishments and her professionalism both on and off the track, Eve is the perfect candidate for this weeks Yamaha Motor Canada Amateur Profile.
MXP: How are you Eve. Can we start off by you giving us your age and where do you call home?
EB: Hi Chris, I’m doing really good. I’m 15 and I’m from Laval, which is just north of Montreal.
MXP: How long have you lived there?
EB: I was born here, we’ve been living in the same house forever… it’s only 15 minutes from Montreal but it’s a real quiet suburb. It’s the best of both worlds I guess, being close to everything without the big city feel.
MXP: What class do you ride and how long have you been riding?
EB: The Women’s class… obviously (laughs), this summer I’ll also be riding the Intermediate class. I wish I could ride schoolboy two class but the Canadian ruling doesn’t allow the 250 two-stroke. I’ll still be riding the schoolboy in the US as the AMA ruling allows it.
MXP: What did you do during the off-season to prepare for the 2015 racing season?
EB: This winter’s has been a little different, I’m in a new school in a ‘’go at your pace’’ sports program. I still have to be in school with teachers every day but by going at my own pace I was done with most classes in February and had the choice of starting next year’s class and /or taking time off. I took a month off and trained at JWTF in North Carolina. I get along real well with Jimmy and he helps me a lot.
MXP: That sounds like a really great school. I’ve actually never heard of that type of program before but it’s sounds perfect for a motivated young athlete like yourself. What are some of your past racing highlights?
EB: In 2011 I finished third at Loretta Lynn‘s, that was pretty cool. Also winning the CMRC Women’s East title in 2014 at only 14 years old meant a lot to me. Last fall I also raced a US WMX where they had a dash for cash three lap race, I rode in first for most of the race before getting passed by the three time World Champion from Italy on the last lap.
MXP: You definitely had a great season last year. Do you have a favourite track?
EB: I don’t have a favourite track, but I really like Sainte-Julie, Walton, Miles Mountain and Loretta Lynns. You could say I love racing on hard pack track. Maybe I should be racing the western series? (laughs)
MXP: You seemed to do pretty good last year on the Eastern tracks also. What are your goals for the 2015 season?
EB: I would like to go for a title repeat of the Women Canadian Nationals. I will be seeking redemption at Walton after having mechanical issues and bad luck last year and since I just moved up to the B class with the men, I want to be able to keep up with these guys and improve my riding.
MXP: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given so far in racing and who gave it to you?
EB: Never make the same mistake twice, learn from it and stop making it! I’ve heard it from my dad on many occasions.
MXP: That’s great advice. Do you like music? What is your favourite music?
EB: Yes! Music is a huge part of my life, I don’t play any kind of music, I just listen to it. I would say my favourite song is “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. This song means a lot to me because it’s the song I was using to get motivated before my motos at Loretta Lynns.
MXP: Here is a cool question for you. What are you usually thinking about while the thirty second is up?
EB: Honestly, I‘m not thinking about anything. I like to clear my mind before getting on the gate and I just relax and try not to be too anxious. Once the gate drop, it’s a whole different story.
MXP: What is your video game of choice?
EB: Video games, what are they? (laughs) . I don’t have any video games at home, my phone is already taking way too much time in my life! I prefer to focus on school and motocross before wasting time on video games.
MXP: Good answer Eve, I think kids are spending way too much time playing video games.
Does everyone at your school know you race dirt bikes?
EB: No, I’m at a new school this year and I’m the ‘new kid’. Most of my close friends do know that I’m racing dirt bikes, same for my teachers, but that’s pretty much it.
MXP: What is your favourite subject at school other than Gym class?
EB: It might sounds weird, but maths is my favourite subject! I don’t know why, but for me it’s just really easy and I like doing it. I also love science classes.
MXP: That doesn’t sound weird at all, I love it! What is your favourite thing to do other than ride a dirt bike?
EB: Spend time with family and friends. With motocross from April to October, I don’t see them often enough, but they understand and I’m very grateful about that.
MXP: Eve, it was a pleasure talking to you. Good luck this year and I guess I’ll see you at Gopher Dunes in July. Final question, who would you like to thank?
EB: Thank you for calling Chris. I would like to thank Duroy and KTM Canada for my awesome bike, Dunlop for the best tires out there, Motovan for all the support they are giving me, Canada’s Motorcycle, Forma Boots, Oakley, EC3D, Evans cooling, Mongoose/Rekluse, Taillefer Motosport, Kutvek Amerika, DT1 filters, Mika Metals, Xtown, JWTF, Protech Suspension, Activate Water, FMF, MotoOption, Clinique Equilibre, RST vélo sport and my parents!
