2013 Parts Canada TransCan Day One Report

Well day one is complete at the 2013 Parts Canada TransCan, and what a day it was. The day started off as most Wednesday’s do at the Transcan with the shocking  sound of Dave Bell’s voice waking the entire track and the town of Walton up.  After everyone woke up and got moving it was time for all the practice sessions to begin.

For team 126 (myself and my son) practice went pretty good, the mini track is as good as ever and since the 50cc’s do a lot of the big track, it’s very exciting and challenging for the future stars of our sport. The big track was in good shape for the first set of practices but dried out a little too much for practice two. When all of the practices were finished Barry and his crew worked hard on the track and by the time the first moto was ready to go, the track was back to mint condition.

As is always the case, the very first (and final) moto of the 2013 Parts Canada TransCan was the MX2 Intermediate, or as we called it today “the Dylan Wright Show”. Right from the start Wright got the holeshot and lead every lap, finishing almost twenty seconds ahead of second place. Class heavyweights Weston Wrozyna and Jess Pettis both got horrible starts and had to charge hard just to get into the top ten. Wrozyna would finish fourth and Pettis got up to sixth, it was a fine ride by both to salvage what could’ve been a disastrous start to the week.

In what could be called the fastest class of the week, the Youth Class; it was 2012 class champion Ryan Lockhart with a huge win over Zach Deiana and hometown kid Nathan Bles. Lockhart was admittedly a little nervous before the start of his title defence but he grabbed the early holeshot and never looked back. With Bles getting a bad start and charging to third with some good lap times, it will be interesting to see if he can run Lockhart’s pace if he starts with him.

One of the best battle’s of the afternoon went to the Supermini class. Michigan’s Joey Crown, Marco Cannella and Casey Keast. These three riders went at it for most of the Supermini moto, at one point Cannella actually got by Crown but would lose the lead two corners later to Crown who went on to take the win.

Not only was it a great day of racing on the big track, but after dinner the first ever Tiny Toes Balance Bikes Strider race took place on the RC track. With almost twenty kids ages 18 months to 5 years, showing up to race and a ton of spectators.  It was a huge hit and everyone involved had fun. After that was the ever popular Walton’s Got Talent Showcase, I didn’t stay so I can’t comment on who won but it must have been awesome because we could hear the cheering as we drove out the gate.

So that is it for day one of the 2013 Parts Canada TransCan. It was a great day and even though it was a little cool outside, it was perfect for racing. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little warmer and no doubt the action will be warmer on the track with a full day of racing planned. Good luck to everyone!
