DUSTY KLATT 2010 MX-1 CANADIAN CHAMPION WITH 1 ROUND LEFT; MEDAGLIA ‘STAYS THE COURSE’ WITH CLEAN SWEEP IN MX-2

KlattSand Del Lee MX Park is home to round 8 of the CMRC Canadian National MX Series. After 7 rounds of sunny skies, things were about to change this weekend as overcast skies were the order of the day. Light rain was felt during the first MX-1 moto changing to hard rain and mud by the time the day’s racing was over making things interesting at the SDL sand track.

Team Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racings’s Dusty Klatt walked away from this weekend’s event as the “2010 Canadian National MX-1 Champion” going 1-2 for the day and eliminating the competition mathematically for the #1 plate. Team-mate Tyler Medaglia had a perfect day going 1-1 n MX-2. He stretched out his points lead to 20 with 1 round at Walton left on the schedule. Kyle Beaton returned to the team and had a strong ride for 4th in the first moto and was running a strong 3rd in the final MX-2 moto before a mechanical gremlin ended his day.

Klatt

In the first MX-1 moto Klatt grabbed the holeshot on his Yamaha YZ450F and never looked back leading every lap to the checkered flag. The second moto again saw Klatt with a top 3 start. He jumped into the lead and held that position until the last few laps when Nemeth snuck by him for the win relegating Klatt to second.

“If anyone told me that I would be the 2010 MX-1 Champion after 4 rounds I would have told them they were out to lunch,” grinned an obviously stoked Klatt. “It has been a strange series to say the least however I am very happy to win the championship for my team. I just tried to be consistent every weekend and things worked out. Obviously if Colt did not get hurt things might have been different but racing is racing and we never know what is around the next corner. I cannot thank everyone at Yamaha, Red Bull, Blackfoot, Fox and all our sponsors and supporters for believing in me. Our team is so good this year and my bike works so well! This makes my job a lot easier that’s for sure!”

Tyler Medaglia

Starts are critical and Tyler Medaglia knew that if he could get the lead early, the weekend would be his. That is exactly what he did. In the first MX-1 moto Tyler grabbed the holeshot and convincingly won the race leading every lap to the checkers. Team-mate Kyle Beaton had anawesome ride working his way up from a top 10 start to finish in a very respectable 4th in his first race back from his injury at the first round in Kamloops.

Beaton

The second moto Tyler again was a front-runner on the start and moved into the lead on the first lap. With arch rival Maier running in second and team-mate Kyle Beaton in 3rd, the stage was set for an epic battle. Beaton showed some great speed and savvy as he challenged Maier for second position a number of times, before he ran into a mechanical issue and was forced to the sidelines. Back up front Medaglia and Maier ran away from the competition. Although Maier was challenging for the lead throughout the moto, Tyler was able to hold him off, take the win, and sweep the weekend with 1-1 results.

“I could not have asked for a better weekend,” smiled Tyler Medaglia. “Winning at home in front of all my friends, family and these awesome fans was just incredible! My bike worked so well and ran flawlessly. Teddy rode great as well and I knew he would be on it today as well which made for some great racing for the fans. Hopefully I can just “stay the course” and be consistent next weekend and win this championship for all our sponsors and my team!”

BlackfootDirect.com support riders Jared and Parker Allison again showed they are a force to be reckoned with. Jared went 7-4 for the day snaring him 5th overall while his twin brother ran a consitent 6-6 for 6th overall for the day. Considering both riders are just starting to master the sand tracks in the east, both of them have proven themselves as future championship contenders through hardwork, focus, conditioning and team-work. Congratulations on a great weekend!!!

Allison Twins

“A huge congratulations to Dusty on clinching his 2nd MX-1 championship for the team,” offered team owner Jason Mitchell. “Now with 2 MX-1 and 2 MX-2 West Championships Dusty is making his mark on Canadian motocross record books that is for sure. Although he was not the fastest rider in some motos he was the most consistent which has resulted in success. Between him and Colt they have won 15 of the 16 MX-1 motos this year, which makes us very proud of both of them. In MX-2 we have been so impressed with the commitment of Tyler Medaglia. He has put in a number of “championship rides” this year, and now enjoys a 20 point lead in the series. Hopefully he can “stay the course” and finish well in Walton. It was also great to have “Beats” back with us. He rode stellar this weekend! The Allison twins also did a great job. We are so pleased to be part of the Allison family program. They are an asset to our sport and industry.”

Heidi Cooke wins Women’s overall and championship

ROCKSTAR ENERGY/OTSFF/TROY LEE DESIGNS/
TWO WHEEL SUZUKI
PRESS RELEASE
(Vaughan, ON, August 9, 2010)

Heidi Cooke wins Women’s overall and championship

Heidi Cooke’s overall win, as well as cementing the Women’s Nationals eastern segment championship, proved to be the highlight of the weekend for Team Rockstar Energy/ OTSFF/Troy Lee Designs/Two Wheel Suzuki at Round 8 of the Motocross Nationals in Richmond, ON.

For the team’s MX1 riders Bobby Kiniry and Freddy Karrle, both motos at Sand Del Lee MX Park proved to be a disaster, especially for Kiniry.
Both Kiniry and Karrle found themselves in the thick of things after the start of the first moto, which saw Kiniry running in third and Karrle around fifth.

Unfortunately for Kiniry, he tangled with another rider shortly after the first turn and went down. Although he was back on his feet in no time, Kiniry could not restart his bike and was resigned to sitting out the moto.

Karrle who ran strong for most of the moto, started to experience some mechanical issues that saw him fade back to a 21st place finish.

In the second moto, which got underway in the rain on a muddy track, Kiniry and Karrle again got good starts. But as unbelievable as it sounds, a hapless Kiniry disappeared from the action once again with a mechanical problem not long into the race.

Unfortunately, Kiniry’s hard work all season long, which saw him lead the points chase for a number of rounds to then settle into second place behind Dusty Klatt, went up in smoke.

“I guess you could say that today I was the victim of Murphy’s Law. Nothing much I could do about it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow when you’re in contention for the title only to see it dissolve in front of your eyes because you’re not on the track racing for points,” said Kiniry. “Still, it’s been a hard go for everybody this year with injuries and DNFs. The main thing is I’m still healthy and hopefully this weekend things will go well for me.”

Although he held a comfortable gap on third place Kornel Nemeth, a zero-points day at Sand Del Lee saw him slip into third as the series heads to Walton this weekend for the final round.

Karrle faired somewhat better in the second moto, finishing in a points-earning eighth place at the checkered flag. On the strength of 21-8 motos he took home 14th overall on the day.

Meanwhile, Cooke grabbed both holeshots of the Women’s Nationals only to get passed on the first lap by Kate McKerroll and Taylor Miller in the first moto, and again by McKerroll in the second moto.
In the first moto, an undaunted Cooke was back in second place some three laps later but despite charging hard to reclaim the lead, was unable to stick a pass on Miller, who had taken over from McKerroll as top dog.

Cooke, intent on wrapping up the championship with a win in the second moto, reclaimed the lead she lost to McKerroll after the start. When the checkered flag flew, she finished some 10 seconds ahead of second place Miller and third place McKerroll.

“I’m really happy with how the series went for me. Today was a great day winning the overall and the title. But it was a bit overshadowed by Bobby’s two DNFs. One DNF is bad enough but two is every rider’s nightmare,” said Cooke.

Team Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Troy Lee Designs/Two Wheel Suzuki would like to congratulate Heidi on her overall and championship win. Thank you to the entire team for making it happen and a special ‘thank you’ to all our valuable sponsors.

Kornel Nemeth wins MX1 – Clean sweep for Tyler Medaglia in MX2

CMRC Racing News

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Stouffville, ON – August 8, 2010)

Kornel Nemeth wins MX1 – Clean sweep for Tyler Medaglia in MX2

Round 8 of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Richmond, Ontario, on Sunday, saw the Hungarian Kornel Nemeth claim the MX1 overall on the strength of 2-1 motos. In MX2 action, Tyler Medaglia lived up to expectations by dominating on his home track and deliver his first clean sweep of the season.

In the Women’s Nationals presented by Honda, Heidi Cooke won the overall on the strength of 2-1 motos and at the same time finished the eastern segment of the points chase as champion.

The threatening overcast skies, which plagued the Ottawa area all day, started sprinkling a light rain on the Sand Del Lee track during the first MX1 moto. It would hold off for a while, only to start again at the beginning of the second women’s moto. From there it went from bad to worse, ensuring a hard rain and muddy track by the time the MX1 contingent gated for their final moto of the day.

Yamaha/Red Bull/Blackfoot/Fox Racing’s Dusty Klatt shot his way into the first MX1 holeshot with Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Troy Lee Designs/Two Wheel Suzuki Bobby Kiniry, Machine Racing Honda’s Kyle Keast, Royal Distributing KTM’s Kornel Nemeth and Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Troy Lee Designs/Two Wheel Suzuki’s Freddy Karrle following.

Klatt wasted no time to check out on the chase group and rode unchallenged to the win. Behind him Keast settled into second place doing his best to keep Nemeth behind him. Kiniry tangled with another rider shortly after the first turn, went down, and could not restart his stalled bike.

For the rest of the moto, the race was for a top-three finish with Nemeth dogging Keast and finally passing him around the halfway point. By this time, Karrle had also disappeared from the track after stalling his bike while running in fourth.

Monster Energy/Cernic’s/Kawasaki’s Troy Adams, who inherited fourth from Karrle, then set out to chase down Keast. Charging hard he reeled in Keast and stuck a pass on him on the final lap to claim the remaining podium slot. Redemption Racing Kawasaki’s Mason Phillips sealed the top-five, a position he held down for the second half of the moto.

Keast grabbed the second moto holeshot ahead of Klatt, Nemeth, Bulldog Racing Kawasaki’s Kevin Urquhart and Kiniry. Within a few laps, however, an unleashed Klatt took over the lead and would dominate the rain-soaked moto till the closing laps when an on fire Nemeth passed him. It was the first overall victory for Nemeth on Canadian soil.

In a relatively uneventful moto—other than the rain and mud providing an additional challenge and Nemeth passing Klatt—Keast cruised to a third place finish, which gave him third overall on the day. Adams greeted the checkered flag in fourth followed by Urquhart to seal the top-five.

On the strength of 1-2 motos, Klatt took second overall on the day, but more importantly he cemented the championship and will not have to worry where he finishes this coming Sunday in Walton.

As in the first moto, Kiniry again succumbed to a mechanical problem and found himself on the sidelines some three laps into the moto. A real disastrous day, thus, for Kiniry, who was in second place in the points chase—a position that now has been taken over by Nemeth.

In the first MX2 moto, Yamaha/Red Bull/Blackfoot/Fox Racing’s Tyler Medaglia nailed down the holeshot ahead of his teammate Kyle Beaton, Orange Motorsports KTM’s Jeremy Medaglia, Monster Energy/Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier, and Duroy Racing KTM’s Kaven Benoit.

In a moto that saw the top-five candidates race the wheels off their bikes, Tyler Medaglia proved to be invincible on his home track. Despite a number of challenges from his brother Jeremy, and towards the end of the moto Teddy Maier, Medaglia convincingly won the race in championship style.

For a good portion of the moto, the action centred on the remaining podium finishes which went to Maier in second and Benoit in third. Beaton, who ran with the front-runners from the start, finished fourth while Jeremy Medaglia, dealing with a rear brake problem, finished fifth.

Orange Motorsports KTM’s Richard Grey grabbed the second MX2 moto holeshot only to be passed by Tyler Medaglia, Maier, Beaton, and Benoit on the first lap.

Medaglia and Maier would race on the edge for the entire moto. Defending champ Maier challenged Medaglia for the lead to the bitter end but was unable to get by him. Although Beaton was all over Maier for a while, he exited the track with mechanical problems while running in third.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Medaglia put a last lap pass on Benoit, who had inherited third from Beaton.

Second overall on the day went to Teddy Maier, thanks to his 2-2 motos; Benoit snagged third overall on the strength of 3-4 motos.

Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Troy Lee Designs/Two Wheel Suzuki’s Heidi Cooke grabbed the holeshot of the first Women’s Nationals presented by Honda moto. She was passed by Royal Distributing KTM’s Kate McKerroll right after the first turn; not long after that WMXTremel Honda’s Taylor Miller stuck a pass on the defending champion as well.

Within three laps, Cooke was back in second place but despite a number of challenges to reclaim the lead, was unable to get by Miller.

Cooke pegged the second moto holeshot as well only to lose the lead to McKerroll again after the first turn. Cooke’s teammate Jocelyn Killough also got by, but this time around Cooke reclaimed the lead on the second lap and kept it to the checkered flag. She finished some 10 seconds ahead of second place Miller and third place McKerroll.

With her 1-2 moto results, Cooke snared the overall and along with it the eastern segment of the Women’s Nationals. The overall national championship will be decided next week in Walton when east meets west in a final shootout.

Jacqueline Ross, who was second in the points chase, did not show up at Sand Del Lee due an injury she sustained at Round 7.
